Rehearsal Dinner Venue

by
Since we are staying in an all-inclusive resort, our first inclination about the rehearsal dinner was just to have it at the resort. I mean the price was right; free. But Mama-In-Law Meerkat had other ideas; she wanted to host it. We have done so little that is traditional it didn’t seem right not to let her have this one thing.

She asked that we use our amazing google-fu and help her research some possible location. Her criteria was simple; quiet, good/authentic food, wow factor. The first place we considered was the blue parrot in Playa Del Carmen:

The VIP terrace seemed just perfect but after talking to some other brides I was a bit worried. Most reported the food wasn’t that good and that the club below got noisy as the evening progressed. We found about a 50% negative review rate for the blue parrot and quickly crossed it off our list.

Next we looked at Xpu-Ha beach club:

Cool place with some very sweet people running it. It also was highly recommended on many forums. Pricing was good but the food once again had us guessing a little as most of it was a little too Americanized for our tastes. If we were not looking to show our guests a bit of the culture, the Xpu-Ha beach club would have been a contender.

Then, by chance, while poking around a Playa Del Carmen forum I came across a post with people raving about La Cueva Del Chango (translated means cave of the monkey). It is tucked away on the outskirts of Playa and has some of the most beautiful architecture I have ever seen:

Not to mention the menu is to die for:

It was pretty much a done deal as soon as we showed Mama-In-Law the photos. Now if we can only convince her to try a couple new foods while we are there. =)
