Journey Of A Thousand Miles: Our Best Man Goes Missing

by
Let me introduce you to one of the most level headed and dependable guys you will ever meet. Best Man Meerkat.

Mr. Meerkat and Best Man Meerkat have been friends for the better part of the last decade. And for the last four years he had been one of our closest friends. I think a lot of this big, burly guy so when he went MIA we panicked a bit.

It all started with the simple idea to go check if Best Man Meerkat had arrived. With a drink in hand and a smile on our faces, Sister-In-Law Meerkat, Stacey the Makeup Fairy and I happily made our way to the lobby. It didn't take long for my smile to fade when we were told that the reservation had been cancelled that morning. You can only imagine the sinking feeling that hit me in the gut.

Luckily Mr. Meerkat wasn't with us so I had a bit of time to try and sort things out before I had to tell him. I didn't believe that Best Man Meerkat would cancel on us at the last minute without a good reason and damn it I was going to have that reason in hand before I had to tell Mr. Meerkat. Sister-In-Law Meerkat and Stacey the Makeup Fairy got online to check the local paper for deaths and accidents while I tried to get a hold of our travel agent and our best man. No one was picking up their phone and we couldn't find anything online.

It didn't take long for Mr. Meerkat to get tired of waiting for us and came to find out what the hold up was. So we told him. I give him credit, he stayed very level headed. He reasoned it out and since we had not heard from Best Man Meerkat he was pretty sure our travel agent had screwed up again (yes he screwed up a lot).  But as more time passed Mr. Meerkat started to get pretty pissed off at our TA.

I, being in total bride panic mode, wasn't going to be swayed by logic or anger.  Instead I was going to sit there in a daze, holding back my tears. After dealing with this for about an hour we happen to look up as the airport transfer van pulled up and guess who stepped out? Best Man Meerkat. I was so excited to see him that I ran out the lobby doors and jumped up to give him the biggest hug I could. I was so happy to see him. Now I am not a "huggy" person so I freak the hell out of Best Man Meerkat. When we explain what happened, he laughed and told us his flight had been delayed because of snow but eventually it got off the ground.

Once the resort was given the booking number the tour company had given him, they were able to create a new reservation and everything was pretty well good to go. He ended up in a different building then the rest of our guests but he had made it to Mexico and that was all that mattered to me.

Now you would think that would be the end of the bad wedding juju and everything would be smooth sailing from there on out, right? Wrong. Less than 24 hours later the bad juju was back. Coming up next - our dress fiasco.

Did you have any crazy events happen before your wedding?
